Holy Cow I can't believe it has been that long.<br />
<br />
So, to catch up with you all it has been a busy busy beginning of the year so far. My fabric shop is taking off like gangbusters, which is fantastic. Some new fabric that has come in this week is from Michael Miller, I am just itching to make a quilt with it:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xezC7GGip1g/Tb7oJolk6iI/AAAAAAAAAl4/TScjNpAU2cM/s1600/Mod+Swirls+in+Kelly+Green.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xezC7GGip1g/Tb7oJolk6iI/AAAAAAAAAl4/TScjNpAU2cM/s1600/Mod+Swirls+in+Kelly+Green.jpg" /></a></div>This fabric is called Mod Swirls in Kelly green. Coordinating fabrics are Groovy in Spa, Mini Ironwork in Turquoise and Kona Azure. All of these fabrics can be purchased at <a href="http://www.suzyqsfabric.etsy.com/">www.suzyqsfabric.etsy.com.</a><br />
<br />
New in my quilt shop are my Shell Collecting bags. The bags are available in two sizes, large and small and two closure styles, zipper or drawstring. All are embroidered with a word or name of your choice. These are great for wedding favors, vacations, or birthday party gift bags. Your kids, grand kids, nieces, nephews etc will never mix up their shell collections again. The bonus for you is that all the sand falls out of the bottom through the mesh so no sandy mess to clean up!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C9f7wvOxWg0/Tb7p5YUp0KI/AAAAAAAAAmI/n5ha444BZC0/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C9f7wvOxWg0/Tb7p5YUp0KI/AAAAAAAAAmI/n5ha444BZC0/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />

These bags can be purchased in my Quilt Shop at <a href="http://www.suzyqquilts.etsy.com/">www.suzyqquilts.etsy.com</a> with the fabric and mesh color of your choice.SuzyQshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02816700166418874706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1508179339376226714.post-90923722226510457642010-11-10T07:31:00.000-08:002010-11-10T07:31:08.632-08:00Christmas is Coming! Although most of it is good I have had a couple of hiccoughs as well. First I had a quilt on the FRONT PAGE of ETSY!!! That was soo exciting! Over 900 views and a gazillion harts in 20 minutes, whew!! Here's the quilt that made it:</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S-zEf8KFnAI/AAAAAAAAAi0/6LhroijNM90/s1600/026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S-zEf8KFnAI/AAAAAAAAAi0/6LhroijNM90/s200/026.JPG" width="200" wt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Here is what the treasury looked like while it was there! So many beautiful things!</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S-zElcssnII/AAAAAAAAAi8/oGG2TwLI6lc/s1600/Front+Page+4-16-10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S-zElcssnII/AAAAAAAAAi8/oGG2TwLI6lc/s320/Front+Page+4-16-10.png" wt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">The next life event wasn't so great, I was playing soccer in my usual Monday night game and took a full force slide tackle to my right ankle. This left me with bruise halfway up my leg and crutches to hobble around on. I am much better now and hoping to be back on the fields next week.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">The most recent great this was I found out when I got home from soccer practice this evening that a Treasury I had put together was on the FRONT PAGE of ETSY. To top it off it featured some of my great team mates from my Quiltsy Team. Here is what it looked like:</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><script src="http://www.craftcult.com/vault_widget.js">

</div>SuzyQshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02816700166418874706noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1508179339376226714.post-66719979666186344142010-04-13T10:08:00.000-07:002010-04-13T10:08:48.676-07:00The Tree is Complete!<span style="font-size: large;">With Spring Break for my kids last week my time got limited and I needed to get the tree quilt to it's new home. Unfortunately I don't have detailed pictures on my process for the final steps, but I will use the completed pictures to highlight the steps.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">After I have my sandwich put together I select my bobbin thread color to match the backing and then a green thread that compliments all of the leaf colors. I then use a small zig zag stitch to secure the edges of the leaves to the quilt. This gives the leaves a leafy feel and ensures that they will never come off.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S8SiSx4i4uI/AAAAAAAAAic/6kJPxZPzOKE/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S8SiSx4i4uI/AAAAAAAAAic/6kJPxZPzOKE/s200/005.JPG" width="200" wt="true" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S8SiUs7zEeI/AAAAAAAAAik/blWt8UTvNNI/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S8SiUs7zEeI/AAAAAAAAAik/blWt8UTvNNI/s200/006.JPG" width="200" wt="true" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Working my way around the quilt until all of the leaves are secured. Then I switch my top thread to a brown and use a small zig zag to secure the edges of the trunk.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S8SiRMFXC8I/AAAAAAAAAiU/lYJ-XQRQjXc/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S8SiRMFXC8I/AAAAAAAAAiU/lYJ-XQRQjXc/s320/004.JPG" wt="true" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Next I quilt the rest of the quilt. This one I decided to use a medium meander. You could do less quilting if you desired, but I like everything to stay put and not look like the fabrics are sagging or held loosely together.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I quilted the interior with a cream thread and the border with a black using the same bobin thread throughout.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Next you need to bind in your favorite manner. I have tried many ways but my tried and true method is to:</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">1.Join my strips, 5-1/2 needed for this quilt, by putting the ends at a 90 degree to each other and sewing across the diagonal. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">2. Press the strip lengthwise in half with wrong sides together.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">3. Leave a tail at the beginning of about 9 inches, reinforce stitch to start, then on the front of the quilt line the cut edge of the binding with the cut edge of the quilt. Sew 1/4 inch from the edge around the perimeter stopping about 18 inches from where you started.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">4. Here comes the tricky part, lay the 9 inch tail along the quilt edge then overlap the 18" piece over the top. Mark with a pin on the long tail where the short tail ends. Open flat the two ends of binding. With right sides together put the 9" piece at 90 degree to the longtail with the edge at the pin. Pin across the diagonal and fold open testing that when joined it will connect one end to the other in a straight strip. Sew across the diagonal and trim 1/4" from stitch line. Open up and press in half.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">5. Stitch remaining section of binding down to quilt.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">6. Turn the binding to the back and whip stitch along the stitch line from the front.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The binding completes the quilt.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S8SiONR30kI/AAAAAAAAAiE/24Z8Q0n9_6E/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S8SiONR30kI/AAAAAAAAAiE/24Z8Q0n9_6E/s200/001.JPG" width="178" wt="true" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S8SiPuBC8QI/AAAAAAAAAiM/aBFWbG-aXoo/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S8SiPuBC8QI/AAAAAAAAAiM/aBFWbG-aXoo/s200/003.JPG" width="200" wt="true" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S8SiaBxHO6I/AAAAAAAAAis/d4YHOO_EG3g/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S8SiaBxHO6I/AAAAAAAAAis/d4YHOO_EG3g/s200/012.JPG" width="150" wt="true" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">This quilt will become a family heirloom to be passed from generation to generation. The construction is such that it can be washed and loved and used.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Enjoy!</span>SuzyQshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02816700166418874706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1508179339376226714.post-50921623023912586362010-04-05T11:26:00.000-07:002010-04-05T11:26:48.221-07:00Custom Tree Quilt Next Steps<span style="font-size: large;">I have diligently been working away on this tree quilt and have several new steps to share with you. We left off last time with arranging and tacking the leaves to the quilt as well as removing the marking lines from the background.</span> <br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The next step I do is to press the piece really well. When you do the thread play like I have done you will get a little bit of mis-shaping no matter how well you stabilize. The better you stabilize the less mis-shaping, but it is inevitable with the heavy stitching I use. </span><br />
<br />

Grab the top edges of the quilt with your finger tips and hold up in the air if front of you. If the fabric doesn't hang straight and has a bit of a curl at the fold slightly shift the two layers to the left or right until it hangs straight. Once you have done this I lay the piece on my cutting table careful not to shift the layers. Then I trim the sides and top and bottom.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojhNnm2iI/AAAAAAAAAgk/6QkKhUkIhKg/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" nt="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojhNnm2iI/AAAAAAAAAgk/6QkKhUkIhKg/s200/002.JPG" width="200" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojiNpksYI/AAAAAAAAAgs/TEHQEp6rKiQ/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" nt="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojiNpksYI/AAAAAAAAAgs/TEHQEp6rKiQ/s200/003.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">After I have done that I measure the top and bottom to make sure they are the same width and then measure from corner to corner in both directions. This will ensure that the piece is square.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Once I have done that it is time to add the borders. Note: If you do not square up the center before you put your borders on your borders will appear wavy and the corners not square which will then translate to your finished piece.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">For the borders I take my fabric and make a straight edge cut, then cut my strips.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojjCnUfsI/AAAAAAAAAg0/N5Fl2tVuhJ0/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" nt="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojjCnUfsI/AAAAAAAAAg0/N5Fl2tVuhJ0/s200/005.JPG" width="200" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojkXeuMwI/AAAAAAAAAg8/Dlb3c6L0mhg/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" nt="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojkXeuMwI/AAAAAAAAAg8/Dlb3c6L0mhg/s200/006.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">To determine how many strips I need I first determine how I want to attach my borders. You can start at the top and work your way around the sides making a log cabin type look, you can miter the corners or you can do top and bottom the sides or vice versa. In this case I am going to put my side borders on first and them cap with my top and bottom. So I measure the length of the piece and multiply by 2. Then I measure the width and add the border width on both sides, in this case I have a 4 inch finished border so I will add 8.5 inches to the width of the piece. Then multiply by 2. Add the width number and the legth number and that is the total number of inches of border that you will need. I then take that number and divide by 40 (width of fabric) and that gives me the number of strips I need.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">For this quilt I used 5 strips at 4.5" wide. After cutting my strips I line up the selvege edges, layer and cut off the selvege.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojlSSiEFI/AAAAAAAAAhE/B_dMMIC-2Ko/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" nt="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojlSSiEFI/AAAAAAAAAhE/B_dMMIC-2Ko/s200/007.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">Next I sew the border pieces end to end right sides together to make one long strip.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojmdIKzjI/AAAAAAAAAhM/-6C4XcR5p74/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" nt="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojmdIKzjI/AAAAAAAAAhM/-6C4XcR5p74/s200/008.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">The reason I do this is because I want to waste as little fabric as possible and I want to vary where the seam lines are. If I had centered the seams on each side I would have needed 8 strips instead of 5 and would have had 8 pieces about 20" long to go in my scrap bin. In this case I ended up with one piece about 15" long.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojo0keHcI/AAAAAAAAAhc/MHG0HwfN3ig/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" nt="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojo0keHcI/AAAAAAAAAhc/MHG0HwfN3ig/s200/011.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">After I sew my border strips together I press the seams to one side or the other and begin attaching to my center piece. Once one side is stitched I press toward the border and trim off the tail.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojn8VvAZI/AAAAAAAAAhU/Lci6GYeVplQ/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" nt="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojn8VvAZI/AAAAAAAAAhU/Lci6GYeVplQ/s200/010.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">Continue this method until all four sides have their border on.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">For this quilt I have a quote or saying that I am adding to the lower border. You can do this with many methods, applique, in the quilting or as I am doing embroidery.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">First I spray the bottom border with spray starch and iron on both sides to give the fabric itself some stabilization. Then I iron on my Sulky Iron and Tear stabilizer to the back side of the fabric. For this quilt I will also use a heavy tear away stabilizer in the hoop since the embroidery will be close to and edge.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Next I used my chalk pencil and drew a line 1" from the bottom of the border to give me a reference line to keep the letters straight. Then I programmed each word into my embroidery software. On my machine I feel most comfortable doing each word individually versus all in one file and re-hooping. Then I determine the length of each word, add in my space between words and get the total length of the phrase. Working from the center out I determine my starting point for each of the words and mark with chalk. Then hoop your fabric using your grid insets in the hoop to make sure the fabric is straight and line up your starting point for the embroidery.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojp47UvOI/AAAAAAAAAhk/vH9U3iNd1g4/s1600/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="123" nt="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojp47UvOI/AAAAAAAAAhk/vH9U3iNd1g4/s200/014.JPG" width="200" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojrAJoV8I/AAAAAAAAAhs/zHswTWOwFr0/s1600/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" nt="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7ojrAJoV8I/AAAAAAAAAhs/zHswTWOwFr0/s200/015.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">Now that the front is put together it is time to prepare your sandwich for quilting and finishing. On this quilt I decided to use a flannel fabric. Flannel is my preferred backing, I like quilts to be soft and snuggly. I also use Warm and White Cotton batting. I like the weight thicknes and warmth of this particular batting.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Find a hard surface to lay your project on whether it be a table or the floor anything will work as long as you can spread the entire project out. I use the floor since I don't have a table big enough. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Place your backing fabric face down smoothing out all the wrinkles, then carefully place the batting over the top again smoothing out the wrinkles. I like to pre-cut my back and batting so it is just a couple of inches longer and wider than the piece. This is much easier for me to handle and line everything up when I am not going to quilt on my frame. Finally lay your top face up on top of the batting layer smoothing all wrinkles and creases. Then pin with safety pins about a fist apart from each other across the entire top of the quilt.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7op-x5eEeI/AAAAAAAAAh0/-hiIWb9FtSo/s1600/032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" nt="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7op-x5eEeI/AAAAAAAAAh0/-hiIWb9FtSo/s200/032.JPG" width="150" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7oqAO-4EEI/AAAAAAAAAh8/7AGpDhXjmXw/s1600/033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" nt="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S7oqAO-4EEI/AAAAAAAAAh8/7AGpDhXjmXw/s200/033.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The next steps to come are securing the leaves to the quilt, finishing the edge of the trunk, quilting the quilt and binding the quilt. Then it will get shipped off to it's new home for the new owners to enjoy for a lifetime!</span>SuzyQshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02816700166418874706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1508179339376226714.post-45529315399684957312010-03-21T16:33:00.000-07:002010-03-21T16:33:09.477-07:00Custom Tree Quilt Next StepsMany of the next steps you can work on simultaneously. The order won't affect the outcome of the quilt.<br />
<br />
What I do next is start working on the branches. There are many different methods you can use for this, my current favorite is to use free motion quilting in what is commonly reffered to as thread play. Basically I draw the branches on with thread using my machine as the pen. Other methods might be stitching on cording, ribbon, hand embroidering them or maybe painting them on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6anfahnzxI/AAAAAAAAAes/KD0YZ53xycg/s1600-h/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6anfahnzxI/AAAAAAAAAes/KD0YZ53xycg/s200/001.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6aniGX8IbI/AAAAAAAAAe0/PRRVdcvXwWI/s1600-h/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6aniGX8IbI/AAAAAAAAAe0/PRRVdcvXwWI/s200/004.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6anmEQtvjI/AAAAAAAAAe8/6U3bNALAJXQ/s1600-h/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6anmEQtvjI/AAAAAAAAAe8/6U3bNALAJXQ/s200/008.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a></div>Some quilters I have met or those new to machine quilting talk about being to uptight or machine quilting being too stressful. When I first started I would have a half a glass of wine with me next to my machine. I would sip on it as I went which would force me to relax and be more free flowing with my movements. With the amount of machine quilting I have been doing lately I would be tipsy all the time. So I have also found that a good piece of dark chocolate helps to get me in the mood for quilting.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6anwaSmAcI/AAAAAAAAAfU/Ea2Kom5lO4c/s1600-h/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6anwaSmAcI/AAAAAAAAAfU/Ea2Kom5lO4c/s200/013.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a></div><br />
Next I prepare the leaves. Sometimes I do this just before I finish up for the day and work on them while watching TV or a movie with my family.<br />
<br />
Remove the side of the fusible paper that does not have the number on it. This side should not have the sticky fusible medim on it. Then randomly distribute the leaves between your varying greens of fabric and iron them on. Cut around each leaf about 1/8 - 3/16 of an inch outside of the fusible shape.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6ans3r0XoI/AAAAAAAAAfM/wOoLW1VCpjE/s1600-h/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6ans3r0XoI/AAAAAAAAAfM/wOoLW1VCpjE/s200/012.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a></div>Once I have all the branches stitched on I then get the piece prepared for embroidery.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6an0V88s3I/AAAAAAAAAfc/rcjS2kzV6Yg/s1600-h/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6an0V88s3I/AAAAAAAAAfc/rcjS2kzV6Yg/s200/016.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6an4QBoKPI/AAAAAAAAAfk/s1GLftZoUxQ/s1600-h/019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6an4QBoKPI/AAAAAAAAAfk/s1GLftZoUxQ/s200/019.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a></div><br />
For this piece I am using a taupe colored embroidery floss and the font will be King Charles. I think the sweeping letters of this font suit the style of quilt well.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6aosVjv5XI/AAAAAAAAAfs/NFPY7NYRMKk/s1600-h/020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6aosVjv5XI/AAAAAAAAAfs/NFPY7NYRMKk/s200/020.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6aou30GE3I/AAAAAAAAAf0/19kRUHd0ccs/s1600-h/022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6aou30GE3I/AAAAAAAAAf0/19kRUHd0ccs/s200/022.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a></div><br />
Once you are done tear away the stabilizer and cut the jump stitches. Then take a spray bottle of water and spritz the top where your markings are and let air dry. You may need to do this a couple of times for all of the blue to disapper, but one good soaking should do.<br />
<br />
While your embroidery is going and your top is drying you can be working on you leaves.<br />
<br />
You will need to find a method of organizing your leaves as you make them because you will be pulling off the last piece of paper which has your numbers on them. I like to lay them on top of my freezer paper design. This also gives me a mock-up before I tack them down to see if I want to move any around for better fabric placement.<br />
<br />
Put the leaf face down on your ironing board or ironing surface. Fold over the edge of the leaf at the line of the fusible medium. You can use your finge, a pair of tweezers or a stiletto. Using the tip of your iron or a small iron like the ones made by clover secure the edge by fusing it. Work your way around the leaf and then trim off the excess at the tip. Wha Laaa You have a leaf.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6aoyijnzXI/AAAAAAAAAf8/Y7VW7jDIWlU/s1600-h/023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6aoyijnzXI/AAAAAAAAAf8/Y7VW7jDIWlU/s200/023.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6ao2Ed4xTI/AAAAAAAAAgE/ziBOQT8PRO4/s1600-h/025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6ao2Ed4xTI/AAAAAAAAAgE/ziBOQT8PRO4/s200/025.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6ao59CPhCI/AAAAAAAAAgM/fhsZL00H5tg/s1600-h/026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6ao59CPhCI/AAAAAAAAAgM/fhsZL00H5tg/s200/026.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6ao8OI0chI/AAAAAAAAAgU/GQIiSswnsn8/s1600-h/027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S6ao8OI0chI/AAAAAAAAAgU/GQIiSswnsn8/s200/027.JPG" vt="true" width="200" /></a></div><br />
Why do I do my leaves this way you ask. I love the convenience of fusible applique, but I prefer the look of needle turn. I don't have the patience for needle turn so this is my hybrid. Later I will show you how I secure the leaves to the tree, finish the edges of the trunk, add the borders and quilt and bind the quilt.SuzyQshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02816700166418874706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1508179339376226714.post-58566676900487170932010-03-21T16:03:00.000-07:002010-03-21T16:03:49.882-07:00It's All About..Vol 9This treasury was a difficult one to get. Every day this week Quilting Frenzy (Ann) will be doing a new post on her blog highlighting different styles and techniques of quilting. I am so honored to be included in her first post.<br />
<br />
You can visit the blog by clicking <a href="http://quiltingfrenzy.blogspot.com/">here</a>.<br />
<br />
The quilt that was featured is one of my favorites and quickly becoming one of the most popular in my shop, it is my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=42696053">Family Tree Quilt</a>.<br />

I was able to slip in and get a Treasury West using my next theme <a href="http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list_west.php?room_id=91010"><span style="color: blue;">HOT PINK</span></a>. Then I had to leave to help in my daughter's classroom before main Treasury opened. I heard from friends that it shot up to over 1000 in seconds and many people had to reload theirs. I know I couldn't open any of them until this morning. Guess that's a little too much traffic for the servers to handle!<br />

First I found out that my Muted Figgy Pudding quilt was included in this week's voter. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5qs7omJ5_I/AAAAAAAAAdc/0AkurqY-M9Y/s1600-h/Muted+Figgy+8.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5qs7omJ5_I/AAAAAAAAAdc/0AkurqY-M9Y/s320/Muted+Figgy+8.JPG" vt="true" /></span></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">To get to the voter and cast your vote, click </span><a href="http://www.etsy.com/voter_list.php?ref=voter&room_id=96"><span style="font-size: large;">here</span></a>.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Then I found out that they also did a Storque article to go along with the voter since this is National Quilt month. </span><br />

Then when I am happy with it I draw over the top with a black sharpie.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Next I create or cut out my background piece. In this case the background is a solid eggshell cotton so I just cut the size I need. If I had a multi colored background I would piece that together to form my background piece.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Lay your drawing on a flat surface large enough so that you can trace the whole design without moving it. Then position your background piece over the top of the drawing.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5gfhVlsofI/AAAAAAAAAcs/YoE7LLkYSX4/s1600-h/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5gfhVlsofI/AAAAAAAAAcs/YoE7LLkYSX4/s320/002.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Once I have the background piece positioned I then trace the design onto the background fabric with a blue water soluable marking pen. These pens are great because you can mark your fabric and then just spritz it with water or dab with a damp cloth and the markings disappear. If you are going to add the applique's and the stitching right away I sometimes us the purple dissappearing ink markers. These are great if you are going to work with your design right away. I once marked an entire twin sized quilt, then got a phone call, when I came back the markings were gone. Most of the time I prefer the blue water soluable markers.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5gfffSk06I/AAAAAAAAAck/lCqu0wdfNYg/s1600-h/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5gfffSk06I/AAAAAAAAAck/lCqu0wdfNYg/s320/001.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">Onto step 4. Time to prepare your applique pieces. First you need to select your method of applique. I prefer to fuse vs. needle turn because needle turn takes me too long. In the case of this quilt I am using a fuse applique method.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">My fusable medium of choice is Steam-A-Steam Lite 2. I like it because it has a double sided fusion and doesn't make the pieces stiff. It also allows me to embroider or quilt through the pieces without the needle getting gummy or sticky.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5gfjZzTt-I/AAAAAAAAAc8/vZQ-RffrS7Y/s1600-h/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5gfjZzTt-I/AAAAAAAAAc8/vZQ-RffrS7Y/s320/004.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">Turn your drawing to the WRONG side. This is important otherwise your design will be mirrored to what you actually drew and traced and won't line up with any of your markings. One of the great things about using the freezer paper is that you can clearly see your design through the paper so you don't need a light box or window.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5gfiTAawVI/AAAAAAAAAc0/p74sqfLY0aU/s1600-h/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5gfiTAawVI/AAAAAAAAAc0/p74sqfLY0aU/s320/003.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">Next you need to make sure you trace your drawing on the correct side of the Steam-A-Seam. One paper layer gets peeled away when you iron it onto the back of the fabric. If you put your design on the wrong side you will peel away thepattern that you need to cut out. I always double check by peeling back a corner. The side that does NOT have the sticky mesh should be place down.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5gfkaFCs-I/AAAAAAAAAdE/aauzB7F4Hf4/s1600-h/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5gfkaFCs-I/AAAAAAAAAdE/aauzB7F4Hf4/s320/005.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">Next you will trace all of the parts of your design that will have fabric applique'd.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5gfmlnjCzI/AAAAAAAAAdU/3pvKVIwGX1E/s1600-h/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5gfmlnjCzI/AAAAAAAAAdU/3pvKVIwGX1E/s320/007.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">Once you have this done you need to cut out all of your pieces. The majority of the time I cut about 1/8 to 1/4 inch around the design line, then fuse and finally cut the fabric shape out on the line. This ensures that the fusable medium is all the way to the outer edge. For this particular pattern I will do that for the trunk, but the leaves I will be using a different method and will cut those out on the line.</span>SuzyQshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02816700166418874706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1508179339376226714.post-68876501522666381172010-03-09T11:25:00.000-08:002010-03-09T11:25:24.201-08:00Custom Tree Quilt Step 2<span style="font-size: large;">After sketching the quilt out in my sketch book and getting all of the main details narrowed down I then transfer that image onto freezer paper in the actual size of the quilt.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">This quilt will end up measuring 50"x55" and will have a 3" border of a colored fabric (yet to be determined).</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5agGGbNGlI/AAAAAAAAAcc/cOPXa7M9uVk/s1600-h/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S5agGGbNGlI/AAAAAAAAAcc/cOPXa7M9uVk/s320/001.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><span style="font-size: large;">This particular quilt is for an engagement gift so where the trunk spreads to the branches it has the couples names and their wedding date. At the base of the trunk one leg has their engagement date and the other has the anniversary of when they began dating.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The next steps go very quickly so I will be posting several times over the next few days as I put this fabulous quilt together.</span>SuzyQshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02816700166418874706noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1508179339376226714.post-54729223395333850522010-03-05T10:35:00.000-08:002010-03-05T10:35:33.409-08:00It's All About...Vol 7<span style="font-size: large;">Well persistance pays off and I snagged a treasury. I met some great people, heard some great stories and have some great customers. One of my customers decided to have a custom quilt commissioned for some friends of hers that are getting married this summer. We have been throwing around ideas and have finally decided what it will be.<br />
<br />
I will be making a custom quilt with a tree somewhat similar to my family tree except that it will have two separate trunks that will twist together to make one solid trunk and then bloom in to beautiful leaves. It will have thier names and wedding dates on the trunk as well as their engagement date and their dating anniversary. Along the bottom will be the words "When Two Become One".<br />
<br />
This is the final concept sketch for the quilt, over the next few weeks I'll add pictures of the progress of the quilt so you can follow me through my process of creating one of my custom quilts.<br />

Ok, I say thinking "I need to get away too", "but we have to be back Monday night". So off he goes to plan the trip. "We're going to San Francisco" he tells us. Uhhhhh that's a long way away do you think we can get there and back in time?<br />
<br />
Well true to form nothing get's packed Thursday night and he wants to leave at 5:30 am to get an early start. So here we are Friday morning trying to get everyone packed and going. I don't think we actually left the driveway til about 9:30 or 10. That's 4+ hours behind schedule and he wanted to be in Astoria for breakfast...NOT!<br />
<br />
Late start aside we had a great time. Here are some pictures to take you along our trip.<br />
<br />
The first day was rainy and cold down the WA/OR coast. The surf was sooo huge, it was GORGEOUS!<br />

My honey commented before making an abrupt exit from the highway "Anything with the name Devil in it is worth seeing".<br />

What a great vacation, we'll have to do this again.</div>SuzyQshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02816700166418874706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1508179339376226714.post-75352651094413561842010-02-25T09:26:00.000-08:002010-02-25T09:26:19.628-08:00A Box, Felt and a Can of GlueLast night at 6:30 pm my darling daughter informed my husband and I, just as we are slicing some yummy Papa Murphy's pizza for dinner, that she needs a costume for the school play tomorrow. After I picked my jaw up from the floor and the panicked look subsided from my husbands face we asked "what does your costume need to be?". "I'm Spongebob" she says with a huge smile. Ohhhh noooo, were the first thoughts that went through my head.<br />
<br />
So to get a better idea of what I was in for I ask her what time she needs her costume for. She explains that the parent performance is at 7:00 at night, but wait...there's more, we have a kid performance during the day so I need to take my costume with me to school.<br />
<br />
JoAnn's doesn't open til 9, so that leaves tonight. We finish dinner, then my husband and I set out on a mission to get supplies to make a Spongebob costume. First stop JoAnn's. We find Yellow Felt by the yard, White and Brown for his pants...but what else do we need? We found a piece of fleece with Spongebob on it and realize that we need to make a big face on it, so pick up some blue for the eyes and red for the tie. Our next dilema, how are we going to make her square. We head over to the foam department, throw around a couple of ideas, but the cost and how to put it together are a problem. So, we head over to the cutting counter and decide to ask for a box. Sure, we have plenty of boxes says the nice lady behind the counter taking pity on us for having to make this costume at the last minute. We go to the back and find the perfect box, figure out how much felt we need and off we go to try and put it together.<br />
<br />
Gary tapes the box back together into a box shape (it had been flattened), then cuts a hole for the head, a square out of the bottom and round holes for the arms. Now it's my turn. I wrap the bottom in brown felt, a band of white and the top in yellow cutting out the arm and head holes. While doing that Gary makes eyes shirt lapels and a tie. Some spray glue later and a few more details with a sharpie and Wha Lah! Spongebob.<br />
<br />
We look at each other and say "Who knew you could make this with a box, some felt and a can of spray glue!"<br />

This lets you position all the items you want to feature and test out what the layout will look like. The next treasury in my "It's All About..." series is titled "It's All About...Him". Unfortunately I haven't been in the right place at the right time, but I am itching to share my next layout.<br />
<br />
So, here is a little something to wet your appetite. Also, some of the items are sold so if you have something that would fit well with this collection leave a comment with the link so I can include it. Also new on my site today is this great Valentine Quilt. I think I have just about exhausted my Valentine's creativity so time to move on to some great new fabrics I received recently. Moda's OZ and Timeless Treasures Frolic to name a few!<br />

New to my shop for last week are some more Valentines items guaranteed to brighten up your home and get you in the spirit.<br />
<br />
First are some great embroidered napkins. They remind me of those great heart candies that are traditional this time of year, but without all the calories!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hlTucoYtI/AAAAAAAAAVc/e7PN42BjQhY/s1600-h/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hlTucoYtI/AAAAAAAAAVc/e7PN42BjQhY/s320/014.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><strong>Valentine Napkins $15 Set of 4 at <a href="http://suzyqquilts.etsy.com/"><span style="color: blue;">Suzy-Q's</span></a></strong></div><br />
Next I finished a fun Valentine Quilt. I love the abstract looking hearts and all of the pink just puts me in a good mood! The quilt measures 50" x 75" and is perfect for two to snuggle up close under.<br />

Too much being cooped up in the house this gloomy week and we had the itch to go somewhere. Where to though?<br />
<br />
Vancouver BC...White Rock...Baker Lake...Nope, Mt.Baker Hwy again. There was a logging road that we had scoped out the last time we were out and about, but didn't have time to see where it went to. We knew there was a trailhead at the end so there wouldn't be any gates, but could we get there this time of year was the question.<br />
<br />
Off we went. About a mile down the road we found a neat pull out with about 6-7 campsites. Here is a view from the backyard of our favorite one:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hia4wh2YI/AAAAAAAAAUs/Erkykcui-Lg/s1600-h/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hia4wh2YI/AAAAAAAAAUs/Erkykcui-Lg/s320/001.JPG" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hic53LB8I/AAAAAAAAAU0/Gfnq4cC4Pvs/s1600-h/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hic53LB8I/AAAAAAAAAU0/Gfnq4cC4Pvs/s320/006.JPG" /></a></div>We decided that this will definitely be on our list this summer. A great pool of glacier fed water to dip your feet into on a hot summer day with the rush of the river in the background. What a great way to relax!<br />
<br />
As I was taking pictures the natives got restless and I got the "Let's GO" signal:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hif5vqzkI/AAAAAAAAAU8/UNCebqyS_JM/s1600-h/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hif5vqzkI/AAAAAAAAAU8/UNCebqyS_JM/s320/008.JPG" /></a></div>I did talk the kidlets into one last picture though:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hiiB_JRjI/AAAAAAAAAVE/LvgjNdj8V_E/s1600-h/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hiiB_JRjI/AAAAAAAAAVE/LvgjNdj8V_E/s320/010.JPG" /></a></div>Up the mountain trail we headed. There were beautiful views of the mountains and valleys below as we climbed and climbed. There were also some amazing waterfalls along the roadside. I was able to talk our driver into slowing for just a moment to capture this one:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hilLQBDCI/AAAAAAAAAVM/yDvzGZNoOh8/s1600-h/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hilLQBDCI/AAAAAAAAAVM/yDvzGZNoOh8/s320/012.JPG" /></a></div>About halfway up the trail we hit snow...literally...no further for us today, darn!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hioR7dVCI/AAAAAAAAAVU/3yJTRhgAZbs/s1600-h/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S2hioR7dVCI/AAAAAAAAAVU/3yJTRhgAZbs/s320/014.JPG" /></a></div>We marked the spot on the GPS and this was a unanimous vote for MUST come back again.SuzyQshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02816700166418874706noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1508179339376226714.post-89379095019838952972010-01-25T21:17:00.000-08:002010-01-25T21:17:35.070-08:00It's All About...Vol 4<strong><span style="font-size: large;">TURQUOISE!</span></strong><br />
<br />
I was working away in my studio this evening, rare for me after dinner, my embroidery machine humming away and starting to layout the blocks for a new quilt when it dawned on me that the Treasury should be opening soon. I opened it up to find it at 333 with 3 minutes to go. So here I present for you Vol 4 Turquoise:<br />
<br />

The theme for Vol 5 will be....drum roll....<strong>HIM. </strong> My wonderful husbands birthday is tomorrow so I think I should find some things he woudl like. If you would like to be included become a follwer of this blog and leave a comment on this post.SuzyQshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02816700166418874706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1508179339376226714.post-54974033354240375102010-01-22T12:46:00.000-08:002010-01-22T12:47:43.612-08:00Thursday Adventure!My husband walked into my studio yesterday and stated "I'm going on an adventere". "Ok....so are you going by yourself?" I asked curiously. "I don't have anyone else to go with do I?" he responded impatiently. "So what am I chopped liver?" I said astounded. "Well then, Let's go!" he stated and turned and walked away. <br />
<br />
Not wanting to get left behind I got my embroidery machine a humming and grabbed my coat and we were off. We live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, Northwest Washington. With the unusually mild winter we have had we took advantage of the sunshine and went exploring in our trusty GEOJEEP.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S1oMceGVD_I/AAAAAAAAATc/JdK3uY5wsWY/s1600-h/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" mt="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1YvG4tb6Cgk/S1oMceGVD_I/AAAAAAAAATc/JdK3uY5wsWY/s320/008.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>We always nickname our cars, this one is GEOJEEP becuase we love Geocaching as a family and this is the vehicle that always get's us there. <br />
<br />
To start our adventure we headed up toward Mt.Baker Ski Area and took an inviting looking logging road. It was bumpy and tossed me around a bit, but it was worth the drive. At the end of the road we hopped out and explored. Not very far was a river with some beautiful scenery:<br />

</div>We also found a dam that created a waterfall. My husband decided that he could easily get across the river and explore a little more by hopping on the sand bar in the middle, looked pretty packed. Well he took the first jump and landed where he wanted to, but it wasn't solid! He sunk about halfway up his calf and moved across that river like he was jumpin on hot rocks. He decided to take the safe way back:<br />

The next road we took we found a great place called Nooksack Falls. It was soo beautiful. The falls were so high and the cool green glacial water just rushed over the edge and into the river below.<br />

</div>I got the camera wrangled out of my hands to prove that I actually was there too.<br />
